Hi, I am Helen!

I like to say I am a creative and visual artist. My photography is driven by documenting emotion. Connection, humans and families moves me and honestly is why I am constantly trying to better myself so I can eventually be the best parent, aunt, sister, daughter, and family member I can be and human in this crazy world.

I grew up with my grandparents and my grandpa really loved film photography. In retrospect, I did not realize how much those photos meant to me and to my childhood. It solidifies how we grew up and makes me remember all the fun times I had as a child. I honestly cannot wait to show my own children my childhood photos!

Creativity is something I always sought out in my life as well. I started playing instruments at a young age, and was really into art but I was honestly never good at it. When I discovered photography, it changed my world, and gave me the creative outlet and fulfillment I never had. I thoroughly enjoy working with others because it gives me that intrinsic motivation, seeing people have joy and having a fun time makes me so happy! I love helping others and I love being there for who ever I can. 

The one thing you should know about me is that everything I do comes from a place of care and love for humanity. Outside of photography, I am pursuing my masters in Family and Marriage Therapy. I started photography, and it completed changed my life so I had to pursue both. I genuinely love serving and helping others and my love for art and creativity thrusted me into a career of photography. I want you to know that I have your back in any photographic situation and genuinely care about your experience and photos!

As for my photography style, it is deep rooted in film photography. My parents enjoyed documenting my life from a young age. I grew up with my grandparents who grew up in the 60s so self expression, arts, music, has such a huge influence on me. 

We are also the family with bins and bins, filled with so many photos that my grandpa took of us on his film camera! All of these photos would not be photos hung up in an art gallery, but photos my family hold so dear to themselves and hung up on our gallery walls!

Why would you make photography affordable?

I have been in this business roughly 3 years, and there has been many ups and downs. I began as a starter photographer, charging for fun! Then I got very serious and my business boomed. I was able to quit my part time jobs and focus on myself, my health, and my education. I got caught up in wanting to chase the next best thing which was working in the luxury sector. Do not get me wrong, that was amazing work and it opened my eyes to business and finances. But, it did not align with me.

Pursuing my Masters being a first-generation student and Latina, has also opened my eyes to privilege. I realized that photography will always be my passion project, even while serving others. Yes, I have a talent but I want to share it with all. I believe just because photography is not a necessity, it creates such beautiful moments and memories for people to cherish for years. I want to give people an amazing experience at an affordable rate. My family had 1 professional photoshoot and 24 years later, it is still hung up on their walls. Thankfully, my grandpa was into film photography and would capture a lot of genuine moments. What I am trying to say, is that, it does not hurt me to price my photography in this way. It genuinely helps me and supports me in so many ways that you cannot imagine!

Photography for me is like a plant I have to keep watering and when I strayed away from my values, it dried up. Now I am coming with fertilizer and blooming into something great!
